Your return never leaves your device
Your tax return is read entirely on your device, inside your browser. It is never sent to us, stored, or transmitted anywhere β we never see it.
How does this actually work? β
It's read right here, on your computer. When you upload your return, your browser opens and reads the PDF the same way it opens any file on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to any server.
We only pull the few numbers we need β like your income and which forms you filed β to generate your results. The file itself never leaves your device.
Nothing is stored. Because we never receive your return, there's nothing to save. When you close this tab, it's gone. We can't see it β which is also why we can't lose it, leak it, or be forced to hand it over.
The only thing we'd ever collect (and only if you allow it) is anonymous profile info like your state and income range β never your return or your exact numbers.
ScanMyTaxes is a software tool that provides educational information and estimates β not tax, legal, or financial advice, and not a substitute for your own tax professional. Using it does not create a client relationship.
Scan your tax return (optional but recommended)
We read it in your browser to detect what you're already claiming β so we only flag what you're missing.
No return handy? You'll get estimated results now β and you can upload your return anytime for exact numbers.
